The elusive white bellbird, which holds the record for the loudest bird call ever recorded, can be heard in the Iwokrama in the heart of South America’s Guiana Shield — one of the last intact tropical rainforests in the world. This recording was made by Ted Parker, former senior scientist at Conservation International, who was widely regarded as one of the preeminent field biologists of the 20th century. This is one of more than 10,000 recordings he made around the world, capturing more than 2,000 species of animals. He died in a plane crash in 1993 at the age of 40.
